The McLook rugby collection

A personal collection that tells the story of Springbok rugby

Groen & Goud (Vat hom Dawie) - The Bats Add Video

A music video nomination for the greatest rugby song of all time, "Groen & Goud" by The Bats from 1967. Images of Dawie de Villiers, Tiny Naudé and Frik du Preez is intercut with footage of the Springboks playing the All Blacks in 1965, featuring all three players.

I would like to dedicate this song to McLook, Rudi van Schalkwyk, and his neighbour Drikus van der Merwe.

McLook says...
Bring back lots of memories. This song was played every saterday morning on radio before the big rugby matches (test matches and Currie Cup finals). It was part of the built-up and set the tone for the big matches.

McLook, I thought you would like that one. I can just imagine McLook driving through Palmerston North, stopped at the lights with Vat hom Dawie by The Bats blurting our from the car stereo system.

How cool is that mate!
