What a team! - I don't think any team would have come close to beating them on that form - would have loved to have seen the Wallabies play these guys - still think the Springboks would have won.

How on earth did they lose in 1981 with this form?

Crowd cheers very sportingly for French try at 11:00 but Springboks reply with great try at 12:00 37 - 18

That was a very good Springbok side! Good forward pack and an awesome backline! They were for me, the best side in the world in the early '80s. In saying that, I would loved to of seen them play the 1980 All Black side that thrashed Wales in Cardiff, a few weeks earlier.

Yep. The 1981 series was titanic (I refer to on the field), but that match-up would have been even better: -

Two great captains in Morne du Plessis and Graham Mourie

Morne du Plessis vs Murray Mexted at No. 8.

Naas Botha against the tragic but brilliant shooting star that was Nicky Allen.

And in midfield Gerber and Willie du Plessis vs Osborne and Robertson in their primes

The All Blacks, on the basis of the 1981 result, and with even better fire power (but not as good goal-kicking as Allan Hewson provided) to win.
