Springboks v Jaguars The Springboks were still playing rugger despite a lot of setbacks including the wonderful 1981 tour of New Zealand. They decided to stay at home and play international matches there. The South American Jaguars were a team consisted of mostly Argentine players with some Brazilian, Chilean, and Uruguayan players. The Jaguars were led by flyhalf Hugo Porta. The Boks were still strong with Danie Gerber on their side. Errol Tobias is in the side too. Enjoy the match. Afrikaans commentary.

    Wonderful boycott busting encounter.

Some South African greats playing in this match. Errol Tobias on flyhalf. Gerber and Micheal du Plessis playing centre. Carel du Plessis and Ray Mordt on the wing and Johan Heunis at fullback.

Divan Serfontein the captain at No9. Loosies were Nick Mallet, Rob Louw and Kulu Ferreira. Big Vleis Visagie and Louis Moolman on the lock.

Not a very spectatular match. Too much stop and start. Typical SA template game; kick for the corners and play of the line-out and scrum. When they ran the approach was for the midfielders to stay upright in the tackle and offload to a linking loose forward. See for example the first try by Rob Louw at 13:03.

The Springbok rucking was generally poor/absent. Place kicking was very poor with Gerber and Tobias steppinng into the vacuum left by Naas Botha trying out his luck in the USA. In the next test Heunis took over the place kicking with much better results.
